I first experienced the power of massage as a client, how a truly good massage can work wonders, how our soul can heal through the body, and how the right kind of touch can awaken deep emotions.
“Originally,” I was a product designer, I earned my degree in London and spent many years designing fashion accessories and everyday objects for major fast fashion brands, living and traveling between England and China. It was exciting work, but incredibly stressful – sleepless nights, intense competition, a world where quantity mattered more than quality – and none of it felt very ethical. As I matured, I realized I no longer wanted to be part of that machine.
Eventually, a few personal life events gave me the final push to allow massage – which started out as a hobby – to grow into a new profession. And the deeper I dive into it, the more passionate I become.
Massage has become a new form of self-expression, one that brings together many of the skills and abilities I already had, but never fully flourished in my previous work, even though it was supposedly “creative.” Like the joy of working with materials – now the “material” is another human’s body, not a lifeless object. Or the ability to “see” with my hands, a deep sensitivity to touch and form. My awareness of the body and sense of rhythm, shaped by many years of dance and athleticism. The capacity to improvise, to flow, to fully immerse myself, blending learned knowledge with intuition.
What’s been the greatest lesson in my most recent studies is the practice of empathy and openness, shedding every form of judgment. Learning to focus my full attention on another person for 2–3 hours which can be tiring, but never draining. And for that, reading some books or completing a few courses wasn’t enough, it took a full lifestyle shift and I’m truly grateful for that.
My teachers and mentors, who set me on this path and continue to support me with generosity:
Lancsin Zsuzsanna & Dan Joy / Lomilomi massage /
Susanne Roursgaard / De-armouring – The Gaia Method /
Somananda & Liisa Maimon / Tantra massage – Somananda Tantra School /
Jim Jones / Trauma-informed bodywork, Tantra, De-armouring /
Although bodywork is my main focus right now, I’d love to return to art and design in the future, in a much freer, more sustainable way 😉
